"This gun is a cool low budget item for people that can’t afford expensive things, but there’s some issues.

Pros- realistic to actual gun (good for reenacting)
Pros- adjustable aiming system

Cons- needs to be refilled with gas after the mag is empty( the mage carries less than 12 bbs)

Cons- gas leaks occasionally

Cons- back to the first just not plausible to play on a field with its constant refill requirements

I’ve had to send it back for repairs once and tomorrow I’ll have to send it back for repairs again tomorrow because the trigger will not fire the airsoft gun when shot.

"I got this gun and within the second day of using it the bolt jammed and it was unusable

"I purchased this gun (faux wood version) back in October and when it arrived it was a great gun. It shoots accurate, realistic make, full metal parts. However, when I measured the fps with .20g 6mm bbs it was only getting around 220-240 fps, which basically made it useless as a sniper rifle in outdoor fields without upgrading it. It then proceeded to jam when (I think) a bb got stuck in the hop up, which prevented the bolt from cycling and after about an hour of trying to dislodge the magazine, I finally got it working again.

Pros:
-Very accurate to real Kar98k, good weight, proportionate
-good construction with full metal parts and spring loaded magazine
-Very good price for the quality.
-Good accuracy

Cons:
-Very low fps, not what was advertised with .2s (around 230fps)
-Practically useless as a sniper without aftermarket upgrades
-Jammed after only about a week of use, which was fixed in a short amount of time.

Neutral:
Since I purchased the faux wood version, it is prone to scratching, which I knew when i bought it, I'm sure the real wood would not be.

In summary, It is still a very cool and affordable rifle for historical reenactment or friendly games, however the low fps, which was not what was advertised majorly takes away from the usefulness of the rifle

Rating: 3/5 stars

"Jams alot, bolt gets caught. Great gun for firing and i've really been enjoying using the gun, shoots fast and smooth. Bolt is pretty hard to bolt back but gets easier the more you use it. I wouldn't totally recommend it but if you are willing to have to unjam it a lot then go for it.

"Finally a KAR98K that I wanted (spring-powered, no cart, no gas) and could easily afford. I know that the real wood stock version is coming out this summer (I know because I asked S&T, and that is what they said), but since the price will definitely be much higher, I decided to get this fake wood version. It is a nice rifle, but it is not without issues, either.

First, the appearance. The faux wood trim does not look too bad so long as you do not look too closely at it. With gaps and glue traces, this rifle's finish would make Tokyo Marui's QC department faint, but there is nothing out of the ordinary for being a China-assembled product. Make sure that you check for the loose screws (because there are ALWAYS loose screws in made-in-China products!). Some users are also reporting a loose pin on the trigger box that locks the magazine, causing the mags not to lock. A drip of Loctite should fix it (you have to remove the stock to access this pin).

Second, and more importantly, performance. It shoots straight with a good grouping, except for one significant fault (more on this later). You can see that BBs travel in neat straight lines in predictable patterns. The bolt cocks smoothly and fairly lightly on my unit, although, like in any Chinese-made products, your mileage my vary in this area. So far, I have not had any misfeeding issue, which is much better than my BAR-10. The mag is solid, locks and stays in tight (unless you have a loose pin, see above) and Tanaka's mag for their spring ("AIR" version) KAR98K works without any mod. If you need more mags, currently go to Swit Airsoft or Amazon Japan, Rakuten, Yahoo Japan, or any place that carries Tanaka's mags. (By the way, why on earth does Evike.com not carry extra mags when they sell the rifle? How hard is it to source and inventory the mags at the same time they procure these or any guns? This is a mystery to me).

Third, now the fault. This rifle, at least my unit, lacks range. It can reach 30 meters (100 feet) reliably, but after that, BBs drop off precipitously even after setting the hop-up to the max. I have experimented with .25, .28, and .32, and concluded that this rifle (my unit - YMMV) cannot get reliably past 30 meters. What this means is that, out of the box, my unit is not realistically skirmishable. I do not know about yours, but my usual field has a 100-foot (30 meters) minimum engagement distance for all sniper rifles. Since my KAR98K cannot reliably get past this MED, it is useless in such a field environment. Besides, even without an MED, I have AEGs that can easily outrange this rifle, and so do many other players. You are dead meat in any field with a bolt action rifle that gets outranged by AEGs spurting out 20 BBs or greater for every shot of this thing.

What this rifle (at least mine - I keep saying this because consistency is not a very strong Chinese QC trait) needs is a better hop-up setup, and it may well be worth it to go to Swit Airsoft and buy their T-NT hop-up for this rifle if you are thinking about taking it out for a field play.

Some Japanese users of this product report improvement by replacing the little aluminum cylinder that is the nub for this rifle's hop-up with a thin (0.5 mm) rubber plate or a 2.0 mm OD rubber or plastic tube. If you do not want to pay for a replacement hop-up, that may be worth a try. I think I will go for this mod myself, at least at first.

Other Japanese users have replaced the hop-up bucking with the Tokyo Marui OEM VSR-10's and are reporting success. They are also reporting that Maple Leaf buckings do NOT work in this rifle, fyi. They say to use either the OEM TM VSR-10 bucking or PDI's W Hold Chamber Packing for VSR-10. I have not yet tried these, so I cannot tell you how well thry help with the range issue.

Another fault of this rifle: It is relatively noisy for a spring rifle, undoubtedly due to its hollow interior and plastic trim. Filling the caverns with foam or something like it should dampen the noise (I have not tried it yet, but some have and report success).

Fourth, the scope. Do NOT bother with G&G's or Tanaka's ZF41-ish scope unless you dearly care about the replica look. With their 1.5x fixed magnification, you can barely see anything. If you just want to be able to use a scope, all you have to do it to remove the pin that holds the rear sight, install a K98 scope mount like this (https://www.evike.com/products/30108/ Look also on eBay and Amazon), and install any scope that has a long eye relief. I have installed am inexpensive 2-7x32 scope designed for the real steel Mosin Nagant, and it works very well. By the way, you may need to drill/dremel the rear sight pin holes to widen them slightly to accommodate the setting pin of a K98 scope mount.

Finally, to summarize:

Pro:

The faux wood trim actually looks good, so long as you do not look at it closely.
Does not break the bank for looking the part of a German soldier in a reenactment.
Shoots straight. A very good grouping.
The bolt is smooth and relatively easy to cock, at least in my unit (some report otherwise).
Does not misfeed. Again, at least not in my unit.
You can use Tanaka's mags for their KAR98K AIR.
You need not buy an expensive ZF41-like scope unless you care - you can easily attach a K98 scope mount to use with any long eye-relief scope.
Chinese quality inconsistency means that you may end up having none or fewer of my problems.

Con:

The faux wood trim reveals a number of defects if you look at it closely.
Chinese quality inconsistency means that you may end up having more problems than I did.
The real wood version is coming out shortly, so you may regret buying the faux wood trim.
Relatively noisy for a spring-powered rifle.
Seriously lacks range for this kind of rifle, and you would not last three minutes with it in any field that is packed with AEGs (= all fields). Needs a better hop-up setup.

"I got this gun a few days ago...it is very nice looking and pretty fun to shoot but there are a few problems. For 1 it is pretty much impossible to find spare mags. 2nd, the accuracy is not the best and the BB drops at about 100 feet. Lastly the trigger is very stiff. Still a very cool gun and i would definitely recommend getting it.
