Light machine guns, like the FN M249, have been a vital asset on the field for years. Usually the job of lugging one of these bad boys around falls on the shoulders of the strongest person on the team, but today that all changes. This FN Licensed M249 Para "Featherweight" Airsoft Machine Gun solves all the woes of wanting an LMG on the field, but not having the strength and/or willingness to carry it around all day. This M249 weighs in at a reasonable 8lbs, shedding almost 50% of the weight compared to its full metal counterpart! Fear not though, just because it's lightweight doesn't mean it's weak and flimsy. The receiver and chassis are made from a fiber-reinforced nylon polymer that's constructed in a super high strength design, making this featherweight option extremely durable.
The FN M249 Featherweight has also shed some pounds by discarding the original brick-heavy standard M249 gearbox design in favor of a lighter weight souped-up Version 2 gearbox. Full specs of the gearbox internals can be found below.
About the M249:The FN M249 LMG was born out of true necessity; a need for something lighter than the M60 while still being able to provide ample suppressive firepower. This lightweight evolution of the machine gun is currently in service in the hands of the US military, as well as over 75 other nations around the world.
Based on the FN Minimi, the M249 uses a 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge in a belt-fed configuration, supplied from a plastic box magazine. In a pinch, you may also use STANAG compatible M16 magazines in this weapon system. Over the years the M249 has seen quite a few variants, all purpose-tailored to individuals' needs.
This package includes a 1500 round pressure switch activated electric winding "sack" magazine. The "sack" style magazines are the perfect middle ground between a STANAG magazine and the bulky 2500 round box magazine. The smaller profile helps make the gun much more maneuverable while still having the capacity to unleash BB fury upon your foes.

"I got this for a birthday for a friend of mine, and it he let me take it for a spin, and it handles great, he has a juggernaut kit and it fits very well. I would recommend the E2 rather than para if you want the complete juggernaut feel, but if you want a light machine gun, the para is the way to go. The big thing I dislike is that the slide doesn't go all the way back
"I purchased the Performance Plus Package… unfortunately, it doesn’t shoot as fast as it does in the video, even while using 11.1v battery. But it’s still very good and very strong. My favorite gun at the moment. IF YOU DO BUY THIS PACKAGE, YOU NEED A DEANS BATTERY.
"Well, I've had the featherweight for about 2 years, and I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with how well It's held up through the years. A lot of the games that I play in are outdoor games in the middle of the woods so I'm constantly dropping it all over the place, and banging it into trees, and to my surprise, it hasn't broken yet! I was a little concerned with it being all polymer but the only thing that's broken was when I got a different stock to compensate for a big Ly-ion battery. but that's a different product.
pros:
It's light weight frame makes it way easier to assist other players on the front lines instead of
hanging back and laying cover fire. (But it's good for that too.)
If you're not a fan of box mags, it's compatible with M4 and M16 mags.
The retractable stock is super reliable and sturdy, so you don't have to worry about cracks or
stress there.
Cons:
The battery compartment is a little small, if you run Ly-Ion batteries, you might need to get a
different stock, but other than that it's ok.
I would take care not to slam the top cover too hard too often because when I did one time, it
broke one of the locking slots, but I slammed it pretty hard, so it was kinda my fault... But other
than that it's still a really good gun for the money.
Also, if you really wanna make people fear you on the field, I'd use an 11.1 Li-po or Li-Ion,
but for the Li-Ion you'll probably have to get a different stock.
Overall, it's a really good gun to have in your arsenal or if it's your first gun and I'd really
recommend.
