" Quickly becoming a favorite in my collection. I opted for the M38 carbine over the full-length 91/30, as I was looking for something a bit handier in close quarters.
Externally speaking, it's easily the highest quality replica I have. It's sturdy, the stock has a beautiful finish to it and the wood itself does not feel cheap. The sling slots are functional and work well. I personally use a Chinese Type 53 Mosin sling and haven't had any issues.
In terms of internals and overall performance, I will say this: it is by far the stiffest action I've ever handled and I mainly use bolt/lever action replicas. I've had to rest it on my leg or the ground and use both hands to pull the bolt back, but after some more use it's finally starting to break in. I think this might be my M38 specifically; a friend of mine has the 91/30 variant which has the exact same internals and his is much easier to cycle.
In any case, I've been able to get decent range and accuracy with only some minor hopup adjustment, and using .28g BBs. It's no sniper or DMR out of the box, but I'm able to reliably hit targets out to 30-35m and get an FPS between 270-300 with the .28s.
All in all, I'd strongly recommend it to anyone interested in a reliable bolt-action. It's not going to carry a team of course, but it's a ton of fun for plinking and skirmishing, and of course any historical airsoft events.
" It looks great, very beautiful peice and shoots very nice. Though I've got a few minor gripes. One is that the orange tip is not removable and is very different than what the picture shows- besides that, the top wood furniture is slightly loose and the barrel bands are as well, but can easily be fixed by a bit of tape or something. Despite my gripes, I still very much love this gun and can't help but just pick it up.
" Pros:
Real wood and steel, no plastic
Good finish
Solid fittings
Easy to work bolt, yet powerful
Realistic action
Realistic size
Good balance
Clear sights
Good magazine capacity compared to other bolt actions
Spring action, not gas
Cons:
Heavy
Long
Pricey
Misc:
You can't attach a scope or bayonet without some modification to the rifle
Markings date it specifically for 1944
Orange tip is not removable
All in all, I highly recommend this rifle. If you can get only one bolt action, choose this one, it will not disappoint and it's vastly better than S&T's M1903, Kar98k, Arisaka, and Lee-Enfield, and it's better than M44 Mosin from Wingun and Gletcher. It's good for reenactments, cosplays, using a model to teach others about Soviet WW2 history, it looks great as a wall hanger, it's great for target shooting and backyard plinking, it's great for WW2 themed skirmishes (and will be a good stand in for WW1-Russian Civil War themed skirmishes).
If weight, cost, and length are problems, I recommend the 1938 carbine S&T makes.
