" Okay, so let me cook. I figured out how to fully customize this thing, including the US version.
1. Outer barrel unscrews clockwise to enable field stripping and to allow ease of orange tip removal.
2. To remove the orange tip, put a heat gun up to the now detached outer barrel, and the plastic will eventually melt, and you can peel it away.
3. Now for the thread protector. There is an unremovable pin in the thread protector, so here's what I did:
I had somebody take a Dremel and cut the thread protector in two spots, long ways, and it fell right off. Don't worry, you can always get another one, especially if you plan on attaching the suppressor.
4. The optic mount. Out of the box, the slide is only cut for the Tokyo Marui Micro Pro Sight, which is expensive and probably trash. On reddotmate.com, you can find an optics plate for the TM FNX, for almost any sight imaginable. It was cheap and it mounts perfectly. (I got the RMR plate)
I hope this clears thing up for anybody who is turned away by the TM FNX cons and might get the Cybergun/VFC one.
For me, the TM FNX-45 is a 9/10, mostly because of the lack of aftermarket internal and external parts. (Hopefully Guarder makes a kit for this.)
" I just want to reply to Ethan’s review above. The orange tip on the thread protectors can be removed by first using a 1/16” hex wrench and unscrewing the hex screw. You can then submerge the tip in boiling water. I used a regular coffee mug and heated up water until boiling in the microwave. I then got a flat head screw driver and, after covering the blade with painters tape to avoid marring the finish of the barrel, used a hammer to hit the butt of it firmly but not hard while pressing the blade into the back of the orange tip. This forces the tip off the thread protectors. Alternate on different sides of the tip to create a rocking effect to better break it loose.
The outer barrel where the the thread protector attaches can actually be unscrewed entirely from the gun. I held the barrel with pliers (use the same painters tape trick if you are concerned about the finish) and simply went left loosey. The outer barrel unscrews about from a point about half the length of the recoil rod away from the muzzle. With the outer barrel removed you can now work on the thread protector. As a gentleman in the comments section said, you can use a torch or lighter to heat the protector and then use pliers to unscrew (left loosey.) It is a little difficult but not impossible.
Good luck!
" GREAT GUN
TLDR: cannot fully disassemble the gun because of orange tip/ Thread protector
Amazing feel and grip. Quite hefty too! a well rounded shooter and beautiful aesthetics... As to be expected from a Tokyo Marui, BUT there is one resounding issue YOU. CANNOT. REMOVE. THE. THREAD. PROTECTOR. seriously! Its like the the thing is glued on! not to mention that there's also a HUGE orange tip/cap That is held in with a pin on the thread protector on top of that!
So lets say you wanted to buy a suppressor for this gun... Ok cool all you gotta do is remove the orange tip right? ok so you do that and then you run into The issue of the glued thread protector, Can't take to barrel out to boil the tip to melt the glue! so what am i supposed to do? I cant give this gun 5 stars purely because of that fact alone.
