"I bought one of these compensators with hopes that the front sight was indeed not attached as pictured, however to my surprise, the front sight was indeed attached on the one I received.
The base paint is matte black similar to the Gen 1 Semi Auto Barry Burton model however it has a shinier finish to it which looks nice but if you're putting this on a Gen 1 it may look a bit off. With that being said, the compensator's appearance is still closer to the Gen 1 then the Gen 2 as the Gen 2 finish is gloss, not black.
