"Only issue I’ve had with this replica is the washers that sit in between the cover for the bolt can fall out if you send the bolt and you’d end up with a loose dust cover. Minor inconvenience but it was fixed. Overall a very nice replica to have in your collection.

"I've had this gun for about 2 years now, the AK5D version the manual will tell you the way to access the battery housing that is referring to the AK5C variant, in order to access the battery housing on the D variant is to actually remove the pin next to the front iron sights that goes through the edge of the handguard. The weight is kind of heavy, making it sturdy and durable, but if you want a lighter-weight weapon, this is not it. It shoots around 400 fps with .20s in my experience but I use .23-.28 feels good to shoot and I would recommend a front grip for ease of use. The gun is unique and probably my favorite gun of all time due to my memories with it on Battlefield 4. The battery space is limited so I run 7.4 butterfly type batteries for that reason I don't run M4's at all but since this takes m4 mags it's very nice to be able to get a mag or lend a mag from/to players who are using m4s which are very common in airsoft.

I'd recommend the gun to someone who would want something different than an M4 and doesn't mind a heavier gun to boot. Great gun over all....one problem for me is my bolt release stopped functioning for some reason....I mean it still works to open the bolt, and the catch also functions it's just the release that doesn't work so I have to manually push it back closed when adjusting the hop.

"Solid gun!
Got mine in an open box deal. Powerful gun with a good weight to it. Everything is great on it!
I would only change where you put the battery. The space for the battery is small (wired to the front) but a butterfly LiPo battery should work.

"just got mine today.
great build quality and very nice attention to details
one problem the instruction manual is wrong. how it tells you how to take off the hand guard where the battery goes
you have to pull the pin by the front sight to get it off.

"Bought this weapon as I like non M4 variants that still take the stanag mags. Actually I find this weapon type to a very good looking model of the FN Herstal. And hey, let's face it, looks are important too. LOL

OK, on to the weapon. It is a reproduction of the standard issue FN AK5D, the Swedish version of the FN FNC. Interestingly, it was the only weapon in real steal to pass the winter cold weather trials performed by the US Army Ordnance Corps while conducting reviews for possible service weapons.

It is currently in service with the Swedish military. It is a heavy weapon, weighing in at about 9 pounds. This is heavy if your used to M4's. LOL . Interestingly, in real steal, it has a slightly slower rate of fire over the M4, however maintains a much better accuracy during full auto fire that the M4.

This replica is also heavy, and is well made. It is full metal with lots of actual steel used in its construction. It weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. The components are very sturdy, and even the mock bold uses aluminum that is milled, approximately 3/16 of an inch thick, not tin. This makes for a very satisfying clank when the bolt is released.

Using an 11.1v 1000mAh Lipo, the trigger response out of the box is decent, but would of course benefit from a mosfet. Interestingly, the recommended batt is a lipo, even without mosfet. This is due to battery space available, which I will cover in a minute.

ROF with 11.1 is 19 RPS. The out of the box FPS is 330 FPS with .30 BB, or 1.5 jewels, which is perfect for outdoor skirmish. For those of you who do not understand jewels, this would translate into an approx 415 FPS gun using .20 BB. This weapon shoots to hot for CQB and would have to have a softer spring installed to accomplish that.

Air seal is fantastic, and the weapon makes that distinct, sharp, pop when fired.

Ambi controls are good quality, and they have a distinct click into place. The selector on the left of receiver is one the best designed that I have seen, and is very intuitive to use.

The big issues with this weapon are in its battery storage. This model if actually the GK5D, not the C model. The handguard no longer opens from the side, it uses a tri rail system for tri butterfly lipos to put into handguard and then assembled. Frankly, this is a horrible system for the battery. It is very fiddly and take a long time to place battery just right in order to get the hand guard on. Good news is that handguard is easily taken off with the removal of a single pin, it is an FN after all. LOL .

Because I like easy, my fix was to accomplish a mod. This weapon is front heavy, so the use of a forward vertical grip really helps. I used an MFT real steel 4 inch vertical grip and 11.1 1000mAh stick type battery to accomplish improved battery placement. This mod is not for the faint of heart.

I placed the vertical grip where I wanted it, ensuring comfort for me and ease of use. I then drilled dremeled out the vertical grip so the the batt would slide through. Removed the hand guard and all plastic from it. I then drilled and dremeled through the rail segment the metal portion of the handguard to line up with the now modified vertical grip. Once accomplished, I did have to drill the vertical grip to accept the tightening screws on either side of the pass through hole to secure it to the forestock. However, there are offset screw vertical grips available that you would not have to modify in this way. One accomplished, I put the forend back together. Now I simply take off hand guard, drop the batt into the vertical grip and plug it is, then replace the handguard. Takes fifteen seconds. Room in tight in the handguard, I have been able to place a burst fet in it with little difficulty though.

One other thing to note, my replica did not come with the magazine, it was gun only. The sight adjuster was present and so was the cleaning rod, and manual, etc. Not sure if just mis packaged or not. I did not contact Evike as I use mid caps and I figured non issue.

Other things, be sure to check bolt tightness, and blue locktight where needed. The right selector switch was loose and so was the gas block screw. easy fixes and we should always check bolts and screws out of the bos anyway.

Over all rating 4 out of 5, due to missing magazine, and battery space limitations.

But shoots great and accurate, even with old style hop up. Did I mention it has old style hop up. I have not tried to see if it could take a rotary style hop up chamber. This one seems to work great, so I will wait until it fails or I need to get into the gear box to check that out.

PRO'S - Realistic weight
Great FPS and air seal out of the box
Solid construction
Looks great, fit and finish are very good
Takes STANAG mags, I have not found a mag that it will not take and feed.

CON's - Realistic weight, for some
Battery storage with out modification is very fiddly and not for those with limited patience.
Minor issues, a few loosened screws, but this is to be expected in anything airsoft.

Overall impressions: It a great looking and well built replica for those who are tired of the M4 platform and seek something different, that still takes STANAG mags. It is a unique, hard shooting, and accurate replica with non others like it out on the field. Ergonomics are great. V2 upgradable.
