"TM makes some very wonderful and high quality airsoft guns, and even their most cheapest items, like this gun, still shows their close attention to detail and care for performance.
Fortunately, Evike sells TM's 18+ line of spring pistols, meaning that it will come in a different style of packaging, have a much higher FPS, and perform better using .20g BBs. This is unlike TM's beginner friendly line of spring pistols, which although they use the same external bodies and quality, will overall be very underpowered and designed to use .12g BBs instead.
For a collector, this item would be great to have, considering this is the only Automag III replica to exist in airsoft. So if you really want something around your house that looks like an Automag III and isn't the real steel gun, then this is your best and only bet. Visually, the gun is quite stunning and pays close attention to the real thing, considering it's entirely made from ABS. It has fake trademarks in all the right places, dimensions are 1:1, and the stainless steel finish isn't that bad. Unlike other spring pistols, this gun has a visible chamber. When you pull back the slide, you can see the bullet loading into the barrel. Unfortunately, the slide safety and the slide release are just decoration and don't work. The real safety is a switch under the trigger. The hammer is also non-functioning. It's not double-action, or even single-action. It moves via a spring and sheer friction. Cocking the slide pushes the hammer in place, holding itself only with friction. When you pull the trigger, the "recoil" of the gun knocks the hammer over. Really simple, not realistic, but it works.
Performance wise, the spring is not too heavy, so cocking the gun isn't too bad, unlike their other spring pistols. Of course, the gun is quite light, but it still has a good weight to it. It's as heavy as a TV remote with batteries and not as light as a water pistol. It's very comfortable, considering the extremely wide grip and magazine. The trigger is not to heavy, length of pull isn't too long, and snaps very well. With .20g BBs, this gun shoots like a laser. It's definitely something you can use around the house, in the backyard, or even in a game if you like.
I highly recommend this pistol. Considering this is a Japanese import, the price isn't bad at all. If you want something completely different in your collection, then this is perfect.
"This is a nice looking pistol, I've never seen a real AutoMag III, only in pictures, so it looks like a good replica. The slide lock is fixed and just for looks, the slide has a nice feel and click to it when cocking the gun and the trigger pull is nice and crisp, the hammer does actuate with the slide but is not activated by pulling the trigger, it is more of a friction/tension operation and can trigger just by lightly tapping it with your finger. It won't make the gun fire, just the hammer will come down, so if the hammer is set and the gun is fired the motion and impact of the slide will make the hammer come down. It's pricey for a springer and from what I've seen of the other Tokyo Marui springers it's priced consistent with them as well. It shoots well but shoots very high with any of the lighter bb's on the market including .20 and .23 bb's. It comes with a small bag of .25g bb's but I have found that .28g bb's shoot the best for on point targeting with the sights at distances beyond about twelve feet. The hopup in the gun is aggressive and non adjustable, so once the bb gets lift they arc up with the lighter weight bb's. Unfortunately the sights are not adjustable. It shoots very straight with the aformentioned .28g bb's and can easily hit the width of a human torso from a good distance. With .20g bb's it shoots in the 180 fps range, obviously with higher weights the fps drops. This is one of those pistols you are willing to pay for for the look/model of the gun over price/performance. It performs well but there are other spring pistols for half the price that can shoot more on point with the sights and also have adjustable sights and Hopup. The ASG CZ-75D is an excellent example for the price. All in all I like the Automag III and don't regret paying the heftier price, but if your just looking for a good shooting higher powered accurate pistol the ASG CZ-75D is the best springer I have personally ever shot and for only $20, half the price of the TM AutoMag III
